Nick Jonas Talks About Diabetes and Tour

(June 26) Clearly the Jonas Brothers Tour is one of the summer’s hottest events but what most fans don’t realize is that Nick Jonas has type 1 diabetes and performs while wearing an insulin pump.

In the recent July 2008 issue of the Diabetes Forecast, the consumer magazine of the American Diabetes Association, the Jonas family discuss Nick’s struggle with diabetes.  Nick’s mother, Denise Jonas, says, “Nick is so self-sufficient.  Even at that age he was quick to learn how to give himself shots… And I wanted him to take over because I knew I wasn’t going to be around him all the time.”

Over a year after receiving the diagnosis the family finally decided to address Nick’s condition publicly.  He has become a role model for others living with the disease and established a foundation with his brothers called Change for the Children.  The organization gives concert tickets to young people with type 1 diabetes.

The Jonas Brothers are currently finishing up the European circuit of Avril Lavigne’s Best Damn Tour.  They will continue to open for Lavigne through the end of June with a final performance on the 28th at The Annexe in Stockholm, Sweden.

Beginning on July 4th, the band will hit the road again for their Burning Up Tour which promotes their third album, “A Little Bit Longer.”
